Who Wore What? Flint Hill Fashion Diaries

Categories:

Hey, Flint Hill Huskies. This one is a spotlight on our senior class. Our quote today is from diva Cher Horowitz in Clueless:  “Do you prefer fashion victim or ensemble-y challenged?” In this issue, there is a common theme: streetwear (more specifically, baggy jeans). It is well known that so far in the 2020s, baggy jeans have been deemed a staple, fashionable piece of clothing that all teens and young adults own. I will be covering how our students style them and rating them out of five stars (Apologies in advance for my obsession with Pinterest).

To start, one of my favorite fashion icons at Flint Hill: senior Emily Chao. She consistently features comfy and coordinated outfits. Her outfit of today (bottom left) is a university sweatshirt with her baggy jeans. Regularly inspired by Pinterest streetwear, almost her entire outfit is thrifted. My favorite touch on this outfit is her magic 8-ball keychain. To finish, she is wearing the tried and true black Adidas Sambas—Adidas are, in my opinion, the perfect basic shoe (especially for layering). I give this look a solid three stars.

Secondly, this Pinterest-worthy outfit of senior Sofia Kazembe caught my attention (right). Sofia styled her Urban Outfitters jeans with two pieces from Adidas—my personal favorite: a thrifted 80s vintage yellow tee shirt, as well as black Adidas Sambas. (These shoes seem to be a popular pair amongst our seniors). She was inspired by her mom, as well as the 90s and 2000s fashion. I give this look three and a half stars.

Our third and final victim of today is the widely known senior Raigan McCalla (top left). She was inspired by DMV streetwear. Her Icarus-themed hoodie and jeans were bought from her staple stores—Pacsun and Hollister (respectively). My favorite piece of her outfit is her Jordan 3s. The colors of her shoes, paired with the colors in her hoodie, are the perfect example of my go-to: the sandwich method. I often use this method on “I-don’t-have-anything-to-wear” days. I give this simple but cute outfit two and a half stars.

Well, that’s all for now. While I do like these outfits, I am not yet satisfied. We are still waiting for the day I give someone five stars. You can do better. Your move, Flint Hill.
