The Ice Hockey season is underway, and we are excited to support our Huskies throughout these chilly months. The Huskies have yet to grab a win this season, but many positives exist. I got the opportunity to speak to Junior Tyler Waterman about his thoughts on the team this year and what it takes for the team to have a good bond in the locker room. Tyler mentioned that the “Team’s chemistry is good despite having a mix of outgoing players and more reserved players.” He also noted, “Our team looks to strengthen the already tight bond as the season continues.” These words from Tyler highlight a positive view because team chemistry is one of many reasons for succession. I also asked Tyler to give us his thoughts on high school hockey and what he has enjoyed about it. He said, “High school hockey offers a nice bridge, especially for those new to the sport, to learn the game at a fast pace, yet it’s still easy to follow the play and learn the game.” These words by Tyler highlight that you do not have to be the best player on the ice to make an impact on the game. Tyler emphasizes the teamwork that it takes to have a successful season, which is why he loves the sport so much. Team chemistry is important to a team’s success, and the Huskies are not short of it.
The Huskies’ next game is against Yorktown, which has a 1-1 record. Despite the Huskies’ losing record, They continue to be positive in the locker room. Most of the Huskies’ games are played at SkateQuest in Reston. Having a substantial Husky student section is key for school and team spirit. I asked some students to describe last year’s student sections for the Huskies. One said the building was crowded with Huskies, and others said it was great to see Huskies supporting each other. These words are great to see from the community, and we hope to continue to grow on it. SkateQuest is near Flint Hill, so we hope to see many people come out to support the Flint Hill Hockey Team!
The outlook for the Huskies this season remains bright despite the current record. With strong team chemistry and an enthusiastic student body backing them up, there is a solid foundation for growth and improvement. Tyler’s insights remind us of the importance of learning and enjoying the game while highlighting the value of fellowship on and off the ice. As the Huskies gear up for their next match against Yorktown, let us rally together as a community and show our unwavering support. It’s not just about the wins; it’s about building memories, growing as a team, and fostering pride in our school spirit. Go Huskies!
