Flint Hill’s ‘Gloco’ Homecoming was held the night of Saturday, September 28th, making the prior week Homecoming-spirit-week. To celebrate the leadup to Gloco, each day was assigned an optional dress theme, culminating in an all-school color day for the Homecoming pep rally on Friday. The themes were as follows:
- Monday, September 23: Jersey Day
- Tuesday, September 24: Holiday Day
- Wednesday, September 25: Red/White/Blue Day
- Thursday, September 26: Country/Country Club Day
- Friday, September 27: Color Day
On Monday, students showed up wearing jerseys; in some cases representing their favorite sports teams and players, and in other cases random jerseys. “My opinion on Jersey Day is that it was very cool. I’ve always loved jersey day every year for Hoco, I just think it’s really fun, especially cause I get to see everyone’s jersey and what teams they represent,” says Junior Seanna Herr. “I wore a Steph Curry Golden State Warriors jersey #30. The Jersey’s kinda big on me but I made it work. And I basically just wore a white long-sleeve underneath with black cargo pants. Jersey Day’s fun, sometimes I wish we had different themes but I think Jersey Day’s a good constant.”
Tuesday was Holiday Day, and the Upper school was filled with all kinds of festive colors and themes. The most popular holiday was definitely Christmas. There were Christmas sweaters, Santa hats, and reindeer antlers everywhere, as well as several Halloween costumes and a handful of other holiday themes. “The theme was fun, I like how there’s a lot of potential cause there’s so many holidays,” says Junior Evie Serich. “I dressed up as Valentine’s Day ’cause you basically just wear pink, and I put heart-shaped clips on my shirt and wore silver heart jewelry. People should dress up as Valentine’s Day more.”
Wednesday’s theme was Red/White/Blue Day. This was one of the days when the floor ended up covered in blue feathers. Students wore colorful America-themed accessories such as glasses, hats, beaded necklaces, and more. There were a few Uncle Sam outfits wandering the halls as well. “I liked red white and blue day because it’s very USA. I feel like every other country has a culture and stuff and we don’t really have one, so when we wear the colors I feel like we’re all really connected,” says Sophomore Emma Blanco. “I wore a white top with blue shorts and a red sweater over it, and white shoes.”
Thursday was Country vs. Country Club Day. The country aesthetic is more cowboy-y with jeans and various cowboy accessories, while country club attire includes tennis outfits and polo shirts. Students picked their favorite of the two themes, bringing an extra level of variety to everyone’s outfits. “I liked the Country vs. Country Club theme, it was a super fun theme and pretty popular with other schools too,” says Junior Jane Stanley, who dressed as country club. “I wore a blue quarter zip from Vineyard Vines and a pink tennis skirt from Lululemon.”
And lastly, Friday was color day for the pep rally. Each grade was assigned a different color; Freshmen had green, Sophomores had blue, Juniors had white, and Seniors had black. The middle and lower school grades were assigned unique colors as well. “I think color day is always a great way for the grades to come together as a community,” says Junior Aubrey Durant, who wore an all-white outfit for the Junior color. “I really enjoyed the spirit week themes, they were all super fun and engaging this year.”
