The 67th Annual Grammy Awards are taking place this year, and every year brings a new level of excitement. The Grammys are the most prominent music award, presenting outstanding achievements in music to different artists. They are regularly held in Los Angeles, and the awards are presented by the Recording Academy of the United States. If an artist wins a Grammy, it is considered to be a golden opportunity to boost an artist’s career and essentially allows them to get more public spotlight. However, winning one of these awards is not easy and requires hard work throughout the year to achieve. This year, the Grammys are being held on February 2nd, and to qualify for an award, the artist must have the music for the qualifying award released sometime between September 16th, 2023- August 30, 2024. Some people wonder how Grammy Awards are decided, but it’s probably not as complicated as one may think. It is voted on by members of the Recording Academy. This group consists of songwriters, producers, and performers. First, these members review all the submissions and determine the nominees. These members then vote again on the nominees to select the winners. The independent accounting firm Deloitte tabulates the votes, and the winners are revealed at the Grammy Awards ceremony.

I asked a couple of Flint Hill Huskies questions regarding the Grammys. I first decided to ask Senior Min Kim who she believed was going to win Album of the Year. She told me, “I believe Sabrina Carpenter is going to have one of her albums win Album of the Year. She has had so many top songs this year and she has been rapidly gaining popularity.” She also mentioned that Sabrina was even gaining popularity outside of the United States and was becoming widely known across the world.

For my second interview, I asked sophomore Marc Dackiw who he thinks should win a Grammy this year who has not yet won in the past, and he told me, “Out of every person who has not won a Grammy this year, I think Travis Scott should win because he has been nominated so many times but has not won yet.” Marc went on to say that Travis Scott made one of the best albums in the last few years, and it’s a robbery that he has not won a Grammy yet. 

As the Grammy date continues to get closer, everyone should make their predictions, and remember to tune in on February 2nd!
