As the second semester starts and the January snow begins to melt, the Major Minors have been hard at work for weeks, perfecting pieces for this year’s Winter Concert.
The Major Minors Concert, usually held in mid-February, has been an annual staple for years. It is an opportunity for friends, parents, and teachers to watch the award-winning acapella group. The concert is always lively, exciting, and filled with great music. Usually consisting of two to three completed set pieces, around ten solo acts, and even a short sneak peek at what’s to come, it is a jam-packed performance that’s thrilling for both the audience and the singers.
This year, the 27-person group is putting on an ambitious performance, with a setlist featuring Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, and more. Fans of trendy pop, alternative, and indie music will love this year’s diverse musical performance.
Made up of a whopping ten seniors, seven juniors, nine sophomores, and one freshman, Major Minors is a bustling group of young singers with a dedication to vocal excellence. With 11 new members, Major Minors has been working hard trying to teach these new recruits the challenging, team-building art of Acapella.
As the concert draws near, singers have begun to workshop potential songs individually, while also working to come together with accompanying musicians or tracks. Despite the challenge, all of the members are very excited. Senior Jasmine Coates shared some words: “The annual Major Minors concert is a time for the group to show off all the great work we have put in this year together, from our amazing soloists to strong voice parts! In addition, this concert is a time to honor my fellow Seniors and for us to reflect on our time in the group. Being in the group for four years, I can’t wait to perform one last time with the Major Minors and see everyone’s amazing solo acts!” Jasmine has been a committed leader of the group for the past years.
Fellow Senior Christina Atalla shared some of her insight on the upcoming concert, “I am really excited about this concert because it is my senior year, and Major Minors has been a great musical outlet for me the past few years.” Atalla has been a part of the group since her Sophomore year, and her experience is relatable to many Seniors in the ensemble. Both a soloist and a wonderful Alto leader, Atalla will be missed next year!
Overall, it can be said that the Major Minors concert is an event to mark your calendars for. With songs, snacks, and a lot of fun, the Major Minors concert is sure to be a hit. Come and support our Husky friends on the 19th of February at the Flint Hill Upper School!
