The Alterations of the Bonfire

Categories:

After an eventful Spirit Week in anticipation of Homecoming 2024, students are excited for the multitude of Homecoming festivities on Friday evening. A Flint Hill tradition, the Bonfire Night is a Flint Hill tradition students look forward to every year. The fun begins at the end of the day on Friday, as students gather around for an exciting pep rally in the gym to build school spirit. Shortly after school, the Den opens for students to grab snacks to prepare for a busy night! Next, the athletics begin. This year you can watch Girls Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Tennis, Junior Varsity Volleyball, and Varsity Volleyball compete throughout the night. However, the best part of the night is when the entire student body gathers behind Flint Hill’s Baseball field to watch the outstanding tradition of the Bonfire.

This year, the Bonfire will look a little different. Due to heavy rain in the forecast throughout the night, the beloved tradition will take place on Friday, October 25, in anticipation of the Flint Hill football game under the lights. While some students may have been disappointed at first due to the cancellation, the excitement is building for the first Friday night football game of the year! Beginning at 6:30 pm, the fire ignites as students, parents, and faculty members stand around watching the flames go up. The Flint Hill community watches in excitement as the fire lights up the night. The Bonfire lasts 45 fun minutes, from 6:30 pm to 7:15 pm.

In addition to the lighting of the Bonfire, hot chocolate and glowsticks are available to enjoy with friends and family. Junior Brooke Kearney said, “The Bonfire is one of my favorite traditions at Flint Hill. I love watching the Bonfire and then gathering into the gym to watch the Varsity Volleyball team play.” The Bonfire at Flint Hill is a beloved tradition that creates memories you will never forget.
