The Annual Winter Concerts

Categories:

A fun tradition at Flint Hill that Middle and Upper School students can share are the winter band and choir concerts where talented students come together and share one thing that they all love: music. This past Monday, the Middle and Upper School choirs shared an audience of their families and friends and sang an array of songs that ranged from well-known show tunes from the musicals West Side Story and Dear Evan Hansen, to holiday pieces such as “Light” by Lisa Loeb.  Both choirs were led by the talented Ms. Pramstaller, the choral director of the Flint Hill Lower, Middle, and Upper School. Ms. Pramstaller spent her time this semester organizing a concert that showcased not only the vocals of Flint Hill’s students but also the community Flint Hill’s choir built through the hours of rehearsals together. Following Flint Hill tradition, the Middle and Upper School Choirs finished their concert by sharing the spotlight during their final selection “Carol of the Bells”.

The Flint Hill choirs were not the only musical group to take to the stage this week as the Upper and Middle School bands held their concert two days after the choir concert on Wednesday. Much like choir, the Middle School Band and Upper School Symphonic Band joined together for the concert’s opening song, “Sleigh Ride.” Afterward, the Middle and Upper School bands followed the theme “Land, Air, and Water,” playing one song to represent each category. One piece the band was excited to play was a medley of songs from the animated movie How to Train Your Dragon, which represented “Air.” The Flint Hill Jazz Band also played some exciting songs such as “The Red Bank Express,” a fun, upbeat piece inspired by the style of Count Baise, a monumental figure in the jazz community, that did not disappoint. Another song that brought both the Jazz and Symphonic Band together was the song “You Better Sleigh”, which closed out the Symphonic Band’s section for the night.

When speaking to the Jazz Band guitarist Freshman Clayton Robinson after the concert, he said “It was fun to be with everyone else and be with all of the other kids. I enjoyed spending time with my friends. The band community at Flint Hill is full of great musicians who are also good people.” The tight-knit band and choir communities at Flint Hill produced two magical shows that were absolutely unforgettable for both the audience and the performers.
